It's something permaculture experts have been talking about for ages. It's also something our ancestors perhaps observed and learnt as they began to practice agriculture.
And it's still something that modern agriculture told us we may not practice, that we may flatten farmlands, chop intermittent trees and follow monoculture for higher yield. From one perspective, going after higher yield seemed like the goto choice at the time. The costs were perhaps not weighed and we unlearnt some agroecological practices.
As science claws back, we are regaining some of the knowledge, backed by fact.
